Exciting young Danish-Honduran artist Juile Pavon continues a run of fiery, unapologetic singles with ‘A Day To Breathe’, released today. Pavon’s feverish vocal performance, brimming with strength and tenacity, is only matched in intensity by the heavy-duty, drum & bass designed soundtrack – both echoed in the intense video directed by Peder Pedersen.
“I need a day to breathe/Just a little pause” Pavon intones. With the unrelenting production and jaded distress of her vocals, Pavon aims to capture a feeling of the anxiety-inducing rapidness, which she senses is taking over everyday life:
“Everything moves quickly and we’re constantly under pressure to keep up and make a choice about what we want in this society. I need a day to breathe and I’m not going to apologize for that, I don’t think anyone should”.
Meanwhile, the pace and energy of the track offers Pavon an exhilarating and empowering potential, a dual effect of fascination and distress:
“I love this track because it’s so me. It has both moments of stillness but also moments that are totally crazy and fast. It’s strong and it gives me strength, and I hope that it will give people strength and energy when they listen to it. I love playing it live. It adds a really powerful energy to my shows. The freedom I feel when performing it, I see it mirrored in the audience, which is so cool”.
Impressing critics and audiences alike with her “combustible blend of impassioned lyrics and club-geared beats” (DJ Mag) and “a fiery force of nature electrified by the opportunities on the horizon” (Disco Pogo), she has been compared to artists such as Charlotte Adigéry and Kelly Lee Owens, while being touted as “the nation’s fiercest live performer” by Danish critics (Soundvenue).
Julie Pavon announced herself with a run of singles released between 2020 and 2022, accompanied by bold, expressive visuals. ‘Herd Animals’ was premiered by BBC Radio 6 Music, ‘Jealous’ was heard soundtracking the Hermès runway at Paris Fashion Week, and the viciously funky ‘Don’t Call Me Out’ earned her Track of the Week from Danish national radio P3. In 2023 she released the six-track EP ‘Watch Her Dance’ on Music For Dreams, with remixes gathering continued support from world class DJs such as Âme and Dixon.
Meanwhile, she quickly earned a reputation for her emphatic live performances, moving crowds to delirious intensities. In 2022, she sold out her first headliner gigs in Copenhagen and went on to perform at Roskilde Festival the same year. She has since performed at a number of festivals across Europe, including Fusion Festival, Eurosonic, Lollapalooza, Best Kept Secret and a return to a maxed out Apollo stage (6000 people) at Roskilde Festival in 2024.
‘A Day To Breathe’ is produced in collaboration with Oliver ‘OliO’ Orssten and will feature on Pavon’s forthcoming debut album, due later this year on Music For Dreams.
