Jan Schulte

Jan Schulte is a disc-jockey, producer, dancer, rhythm enthusiast and jaw harp player from Dusseldorf, Germany. Never satisfied with musical stereotyping he produces different odd styles of dance music under various alter egos such as Wolf Mueller, Bufiman or even Diskoking Burnhart McKoolski.

While the mysterious krauty records of Wolf Mueller sound more like a lesson in German bongo funk“ (Aaron Coultate, RA) with their live recorded percussions and delayed rhythm guitars, the Bufiman records combine tribal disco grooves with stomping bass drums and jacking Hi-hats, while his drum-heavy reworks as DB McKoolski for Edits Des Amateurs gain horrendous prices on the black market.

Being resident DJ at the infamous ‘Salon des Amateurs’ in Dusseldorf – “the weirdo post-kraut scene’s Haçienda” (Young Marco) – for more than 5 years he was part of the clubs expedition into the unknown wilderness of peculiar and experimental dance music. Besides that he was the musical host of far out and excessive Dusseldorf Art Academy parties “Single Club”, a wild combination of art happening and 24-hour party.

In his heavily percussive and enthusiastic DJ-Sets he light-footedly jumps genres and decades from African inspired Krautrock to emotional Voodoo-Techno to forgotten B-side Classics. The one thing you can be sure to await is a glimpse into some previews of his productions in the making, before supporters like Young Marco, Cottam, Gilb’r, J.T.C., Prins Thomas, Lena Willikens, Paul Strangefruit or even Jamie XX can get their hands on them.
